I am not including any sound samples as by now it is well known in the psychedelic music enthusiasts' circles that this is a nail biting jaw dropper of an album by this long forgotten Indian band with searing fuzz, top notch energetic playing and super tasty fusing of Indian instruments and garage band sound!!! Repeat: This is the original copy! 

It's been produced by Sharon Prabhakar, one of the finest female pop singers of late 70s and 1980s India.

The disc offers an i*n*c*r*e*d*i*b*l*e band playing their sweat off! They do sound like a raw garage band with not much care for production (they were probably financially not allowed to spend much time in studio and perfect their sound anyway) but the output is a killer knock-out psych-out! They are doing a lot of covers but the covers come with a distinctive Indian feel with tablas and advanced arrangements, not to mention truly lethal levels of fuzz guitar. They have very funnily quoted Jethro Tull's Locomotive Breath as "Locomotive Bread" on the cover and it is obvious there's serious phonetic errors in their 'understanding' of the words too since they sing all the English songs with wrong lyrics. There also are a couple of instrumental freak out tunes which are very unlike late 70s; they sound like a magnificent psych freak-out festival psych band from late 60s with an Indian feel. This is truly gorgeous stuff and as rare as taking literally years to find in a country of a billion!

The Atomic Forest’s mix of blistering, fuzzy rock and synth-lead funk inspired collectors the world over to fork over thousands of dollars for original copies of their solitary release, Obession ‘77 . Part of the interest certainly stemmed from its liberal doses of searing fuzz guitar. Part of it sprung from the album's rarity: unknown for years, Obsession '77 suddenly became a top want on every global-rock collector's short-list. 

The album Obsession was a reflection of the time when audiences demanded covers and bands in turn introduced them to the classic rock acts of the West. Says 62-year-old Dhas, or Madhoo as he likes to be known, in an interview over the phone, “At that time, bands couldn’t perform in India so we did covers and the more you sounded like the original the better. That’s the way people heard the Rolling Stones, Deep Purple or Pink Floyd and how Atomic Forest got started.”

Obsession moves from earnest, quirky covers of the Beatles, Jethro Tull, Jimi Hendrix, and Deep Purple to overblown rock opera via the most funky, psychedelic garage rock you’ve ever heard. “Obsession 77 (Slow)” is a tough, rolling funk number, while “Butterfly Version 1” is noisy psych-rock replete with vibrating melodies and funky tablas. Dhas’s vocal range, and mimicry, is remarkable, but what really stands out is the album’s crackling energy, DIY feel and the wild experimentation.

Nandu Bhende, lead vocalist of The Savages, another Seventies beat group, describes Atomic Forest as “the only major competition of that time.” The band’s line-up included Dhas on lead vocals, Neel Chattodpadhyaya on lead guitar, Keith Kanga on bass and Valentine Lobo on drums.
