Description
A very hard to find, rarely offered for sale, original Brunswick #131 Dock Boggs 78 RPM shellac record, "Country Blues", backed with "Sammie, Where Have You Been So Long?". If you collect this early country blues style music, you know how hard his records are to find, much less this one, so don't miss your chance to own one. The only other original Brunswick 78 of Boggs that I can find having sold on Ebay was the less well known "Hard Luck Blues", #133, which went for $1,294. I do not grade records, as I have no expertise in that field, but visually, this record looks to be in pretty good condition with a few light scuffs and scratches which should not have any effect on it's playing, and is pretty common on the 90+ year old records. There are do deep scratches or chips. This is also the record that made him an influential artisit to many aspiring folk artists after it's inclusion on Harry Smith's 1951 Anthology of American Folk Music. In addition to his banjo and vocals, he is accompanied on guitar by Hub Mahaffey. Boggs only had 12 original recording, with 8 sides on Brunswick in 1927 and 4 sides on Lonesome Ace in 1929. For most of his life, he was a coal miner until he was rediscovered during the rivival of folk music in the '60's.
