THE BEATLES "YESTERDAY & TODAY" BUTCHER COVER FIRST STATE
CAPITOL ST-2553

Original 1966 LP album cover The Beatles “Yesterday & Today”, first state “BUTCHER”, (Capitol Records ST-2553), STEREO, released 15 June 1966. Due to the controversy over the nature of this photo, on the weekend of June 11th & 12th 1966, Capitol plant employees were assigned to open up thousands of “Yesterday & Today” albums, stacking the Butcher Covers in one pile and the inner sleeved records in another. Almost all of the original "Butcher" covers were destroyed or sealed with new pictures. A very very small stereo copies of First State Butcher Covers survived. Mono copies outnumbered stereo copies by about ten to one, making the stereo copies far more rare and valuable to collectors.
The Beatles “Yesterday & Today”, Capitol ST-2553 (STEREO), Released June 15, 1966. This original album has the first state textural stereo "Bucher" cover. Factory #2 (#2 on the cover back side) pressing , Scranton, Pennsylvania. The album cover embodies all the necessary characteristics of an original authentic Capitol Records product from 1966. It is genuine and authentic in every aspect. Record has black rainbow label without “subsidiary” rim print. First East Coast pressing, Scranton, PA (triangle stamps on the trail-off areas). Very first stamp matrix numbers: ST1-2553-A3 / ST2-2553-B2. Original early orange inner sleeve is numbered PE-12-2F. This extremely rare beautiful authentic copy!!! Hard to find a better copy of this. All records from my personal collection, collected for many years.
Accompanying this particular Butcher Cover are letter of Authenticity from Perry Cox (see photo), author of "The Official Price Guide to the Beatles Records and Memorabilia", date 02.12.2005.

Conditions:

The Condition of the actual Butcher Slick is a brilliant and sharp Near Mint, with NO blemishes at all. Absolutely flawless in every aspect. The images jump off the Slick with bold colors and dark, vibrant clarity. The overall condition of the Cover is solid Near Mint Minus. Grading was dictated by a couple of small and minor wear points : one tiny tap on the upper left corner, small not through split of seam wear on the top center, and a small corner wear by the bottom right mouth opening. The back cover is superb and clean except for some light age mellowing on the right edge. Original orange inner sleeve in Mint Minus condition. Original record has never been played - Mint condition!
